Why Weren’t These Articles Curated?

Do curators avoid promoting controversial topics?

A constant question: why wasn’t that story curated?

Over the past several months I have written half a dozen impassioned stories about racism or the current political situation. I wrote them because the topics were weighing heavily on my mind, and I wanted to say something about them.

As I wrote each of them, though, I could almost depend on them not being published by a big publication, in fact I submitted them to Illumination as they have always accepted whatever I wrote in the correct format. But I have known they wouldn’t get curated and they didn’t. So, I stop and ask myself “What Can I Learn From This?”

I’ve chosen five of my stories to reexamine to see if I can figure it out.
